If American General has sold my account to a collection agency, are they required to show this account with a $0 balance and transferred to a another lender? If so, should I send them a letter stating the fact. Any case law with this issue would be helpful. ASAP

You need to verify with the collector that they actually own the debt. Send a DV to the collection agency. If they're a 3rd party collector, I believe it will show on your credit report as charged off and can either show a $0 balance or the $ amount that was written off.

If this collection agency is simply collecting on behalf of AG, you can tell them you won't deal with a 3rd party collector and work directly with AG.
