I had six credit card balances that are listed as charged-off. Five of those I have paid in full through the collection agencies. One of the six I settled with a collection agency.
My score is around 530. What is the next step??? Is there anything I can do to increase my score or improve the status of the listings...or do i just wait 7 years.
Thanks

Since you have successfully settled the accounts, it would have a positive effect on your report. Hence you may see some improvement in the score with the next updates.

You can negotiate a 'pay for delete' option with the CAs for the accounts 'paid in full'. This way you can eliminate the negative information from your report. However, remember that the collection agencies are not required to comply with your request.

These accounts would stay on your report for seven years but their impact would reduce with time and if you can maintain a healthy credit habit in the future, you might experience your score no longer getting affected by these entries.

Thanks SC,

Just to be clear even though I have already paid the account off with the CA I can still ask them to delete from my report? I understand that they are not obligated to do this.

Once again that request would be to the CA and not the Original creditor. Since Ive paid all these there is nothing listed under collections on more report; but since the Original Account was charged off thats how its listed with the OC.

Thanks Again

You could very possibly successfully dispute the original creditor through the CB's. A simple letter could work. You did not say how old they are? It is all up to 1). what you are trying to accomplish. 2). How much effort are you willing to put in.3). How much are you trying to raise your score? It has been done. I raised my credit score 102 points within 60 days. 1st CB pull 547, started action for 30 days, 2nd pull 640 93points up! Next pull a 649 now I am over a 700. I had 1 chpt 13 bk, 1 judgement, 1 foreclosure, 1 2nd mortgage foreclosure and several other charge offs including credit cards. I have proof I have all of my CB's. It can be done and done fast reguardless of what "they" say. Within 6 months I went from crap to gold! I now borrow on a signiture (if I choose). The problem is the crooks out their ruin what I do. I know it works 100% of the time! How can I say that? NUMBERS don't lie! They have their scoring models (hint) manipulate them. That is why I ask..... what are you trying accomplish.................how much effort. It can be done! It takes pure guts and sweat. It ain't fer the yella skined faint hearted! LOL!! Good luck!

You need to get a copy of all 3 reports (annualcreditreport.com) & dispute them all. In the dispute area, click other. Then write debt settled with Collection Agency before charge off. Start there......

Also, when I do the dispute, do I just state it was paid in full?
