To All Who Criticize

Then I moved on to my credit card accounts. My credit cards were being paid under a debt management system, whereby the rates were reduced. However, due to furlough days, taking care of a disabled daughter and her two children, a husband on disability with cancer, and a mother in a nursing home with alzheimers, it became impossible to continue the high monthly payments for the DMP.
Then I became involved in the settlement process. I've been able to settle 2 accounts so far.
The point of this post is that you who post criticizing others about their credit card debt have no idea what their circumstances are/were. One late payment on one credit card (where I was disputing a charge) and one late payment on a cell phone bill caused my credit card companies to jump my interest rate (the Universal Default) to a ridiculous and unmanagement rate. What difference should it make to the credit card company if my cell phone bill was late (once).
I carried a high balance on my credit cards at lower interest rates. Paid my younger daughters medical/doctor bills with them (she's bipolar) and takes 5 medications a day. No health insurance at the time she was diagnosed. One prescription cost $350 a month! Used them for necessary car repairs to be able to get back and forth to work. Took no vacations, bought no furniture, etc.
Yeah, some people let their spending get out of control. But they're trying to survive and fix their mess.
You people who post on here criticizing are not here to help anyone. Does it make you feel superior to kick someone when they're down?? Watch out for KARMA ....Someday YOU could lose your job, have medical problems/illness in family.
Walk a mile in someone's shoes before you criticize.

I feel your pain aubrey!
I have two kids with autism with high medical bills that have really thrown us for a loop. We have 700 credit scores. The RE industry dropped which we lost most of our income and here we are $35,000 in debt. It happens fast even to those that make good choices.

I know that posting links is a no-no but perhaps the mods will allow this one to stay put as it accentuates Aubrey's original post in this thread so well!

The vast majority of people participating in this forum and looking for help are not opportunists looking for a half priced lunch special. They are responding to an all too wide spread set of circumstances.

I agree, you never know what's going to happen in life. I tried to help out my ex-fiancee, and got stuck with all his debt. Now, I'm the one getting harassed by creditors and my credit score is terrible. Even if I settle, my credit score will be trashed for a while. This isn't a fun place to be. I had great credit, now I can't even afford to get my heat fixed.
Everyone in this forum has been very helpful. Continue to celebrate the great settlements that you get. Many people are so close to the edge, they really need to hear good news.

GOOD FOR YOU, AUBREY!! Unlike ALOT people I know, you are taking responsibility for your own situation. And you're right...everyone's issues are different. That is ALOT you have 'on your plate' and I want to say it seems like you are working everything out for yourself. yes...if I didn't find this Forum, I would lose SOOO many nights sleep about the debt I have and I would have no way of knowing how to deal with it all.

I with you Aubrey! As a single father, I struggle between pays to make ends meet. I've been in the payday mess since I took out my first one over 7 years ago. I was not aware of the fees and interest. I took out the loan thinking it would help. I was dead wrong. It only made things worse, along with credit card debt. The more I learn about these types of loans, the more I don't understand of why they are legal. If you have more than one payday loan, you can forget it. You will become a financial mess, and spend months or years getting out of the debt.
I'm with you Aubrey. Payday loan company do not help anyone. Eit
I'm with you Aubrey. Payday loan company do not help anyone. Either you pay one heck of a fee to get the loan, or you have to extend it so many times that you never get out of the debt. In my opinion, if you pay enough extensions that cover the balance, the debt shoulde be settled. That's how it should truly work. The loans are a rip-off, and shouldn't be legal in the first place.

I'm a single mom, myself ( I think I posted that already..LOL). So it DOES help that someone is 'in the same bpat' as I am. not that I'm wishing that people stay in debt, ..I'm just saying I take everyone's advice...thank you!!

Doesn't Buy "I Have a Hard Life" Excuse
I am a single mother. I have an illness. I don't make very much money but I survive just fine. How? I do not have credit cards. I don't use my checks. I do not take out loans. I do not rent to own anything. I do not have a brand new car I have to pay monthly on. I have 3 cats and a dog. Oh, and I am 28 years old. I also work my ass off and I make choices to stay debt free. It is as simple as that. You all made choices to be in debt. Now pay the consequences. I do not mean to be harsh but it all boils down to the choices that people make.

After saying that, I really wanted to wish you guys good luck and I hope you can get your stuff straightened out. But please, make better choices because the financial consequences always come!

I applaud you. However, each person is different, each story is too. We aren't here to judge ANYone, only to provide as much helpful information as possible to assist people who request it.

There IS no reason to put ANYONE down..I agree. I get so much help from those who are 'worse off than me'. It really helps ME to talk to someone..ya know? To get the knowledge from those who are Experts in the field. They may have information that I DON'T have. Thank you everyone!!
Response to all who criticize!
I somewhat agree with the single mother. I myself have filed for bankruptcy and I am only 24. But I would like to point out sometimes it is not only the choices you make but the choices that are made for you. Sometimes there are things out of your control such as being laidoff from a job that affect your day to day living. So please think of these things also, not just someones stupid choices...we all have made them whether it be financially or not...Merry Christmas everyone...

First off I can't imagine seeking out this forum if you aren't in this situation JUST to come on and tell people how bad they are and how perfect you are. That is just very strange to me. It is just strange you would post here. I don't seek out forums that I have nothing to do with to post on.
Good for you, you are perfect! You have never made a bad choice. You have never been "just getting by" and then had a love one get ill and not have the medical insurance pay for it. You have never been one day late on a credit card to have the company raise the rate from 6% to 30% plus late fees. I am proud of you. I am sure you have the perfect answer to what you would do in all these cases plus all the rest.
You are right, next time I will make the choice not to lose almost all our income when the economy crashed and when I had two sick kids with expenses that insurance didn't cover, thank you.

I do not think anyone should judge anyone.. what Don't Buy It posted is a popular opinion and it is truely admirable for those who can live that way and are lucky enough to not have any emergenices (job loss, illness, family emergencies) that have sprung up out of nowhere and cause unexpected bills. that said, i do not see why this should be really discuessed any further (or at least in this board, and not in the pub) as everyone has their own opinion and are entitled to it but i do not see this really going anywhere.
