I got in a huge mess with pay day loans--- and I started having a hard time keeping up with some of the ones that went into default. Anyway, when I closed the account for some other lenders, it bounced the checks for a couple store fronts. One of them is a little local company called Cash2Day. They are in Tennessee. They called me, I called back to try to get in touch with someone, but never heard back. They called my references. I called to try to arrange a payment, didnt hear back. This was just 2 weeks ago.

I just got a voicemail from an office stating he needs a notice from me by the end of business today that provides a receipt showing I paid this bad check??!

Are they not required to even send me anything in the mail about this? I realize this IS a crime, and I want to pay it (i cant afford to until next pay period!), but they can just hand it over the cop just like that? I tried to trace the phone number that the cop called from--- I saw it pop up but didnt recognize it, but it was an unpublished number.

I had this happen to me, with a few PDL's I defaulted on. First of all, on a PDL 'contract', it states "they won't contact your references". A 'store-front' PDL 'contract' even stated this. They broke their OWN rule by doing this. They called and said they would have a "legal rep call me"..blah, blah. Just empty scare tactics that they use.

Thanks everyone. I am going to call tomorrow and find out what the heck this is. My sister called the line and said when he answered he just said "Hello", and this was just a few minutes ago, almost 7:00.

It freaked me out since it's a legal store front but... I just didnt understand how it would have gone straight to a cop and no notice would have come to me.

For a legal store front, with a bad check- couldn't all they do is take me to court? I understand the debt is mine, I am fully willing to pay. I just want to make sure I understand totally what they can and cannot do.

The police cannot do anything, so don't worry about that part. I would call the Corp Office and report the manager for thier actions as you will probably get the last laugh as they are excorted ot fo the store just before Christmas!! I know that is what would happen with my staff. I would also report them to the state and make sure that you keep the number and use it when reporting to both Corp and State.

Thank you! I called today--- his voicemail says nothing about the police, nothing abou tthe dept, nothing about who he even is. He has a country accident and a local number.

I left a voicemail and stated that I would need his badge number and what department he was with, and to get back with me. He called while I was in a meeting at work and left a voicemail and said "Ms ___ I am calling you back, you left a message this morning. I cant start playing phone tag with you all day!" and hung up. Never said who he was, never answered any of my questions.

Is this something I can report to my local police department before? I'm nervous since it IS a local store front, and there's a bad check involved, but surely this CANNOT BE a real police officer.

Tell them you are going to file charges aganist them for telling you he is a Policeman.
However you don't want to cause them trouble and their licenses, so you are willing to drop all this if they give you back the check free. (period) and drop it. You may have the drop on them, you can really cause them some problems, they know this, they can make any excuse they want , but the law was broken by them.

Thanks for all your input, I really appreciate it! (And I tried to register yesterday but the password never came to my email!) I am aware of what I'm responsible for and will do what I am needed to do, but the stuff they get away with is ridiculous--- and I didn't really expect it from a legal loan!
