Funny how his name does not show up in the New Jersy BAR and for him in Pennsylvania he is inactive....

Do not listen to this troll, he cannot sue you and he cannot garnish your wages....DO NOT PAY HIM!!!!!!

From what I see, if he is treatening people under his law firm name and if in fact the letters come from PA, I would contact a consumer attorney ASAP for unlicensed practice of law and sue him.

You should confirm with the state of NJ that he is not licensed there also and if in fact he is not licensed, I would sue him there too.

I had a stupid payday loan that i took out about 4 months ago. the real crooks are the PDL companies. I spoke with this lady and she helped me out at William Sokols office. She allowed me to pay what i borrowed. she also told me that if i call all the other PDL loans I have and tell them I must pay the loan amount because of the intrest being regulated they will usualy allow you to pay that amount. Dont believe everything you read because if you know you took out the loan someone has to collect it. just make sure you get it in writting.

Dottyandjim-you must work for the lowlife. You dont pay ANYONE who call or sends a letter saying you owe them cause of some old debt. ANYONE can do that. First you have to make sure they LEGALLY own and can collect that debt and this moron Sokol is NOT an attorney-he is a bottom feeding lying scum out to fleece decent folks out of their money. If you fell for his line-then I pity you and if you work for him which I suspect-your scum also.

Sokol's office calls me constantly. Each time, I tell them they need to send me written documentation of the debt that I owe, including the date, amount, and name of the original lender. I tell them that after I receive their correspondence, I would check with the original lender to be sure Sokol's office is the debt collector of record. And I tell them if I find out they're legitimate, I will happily pay any debt that I owe. The call always ends with them hanging up on me. Yeah, total bottom-feeding scumbags.

After reading all of these messages, I decided to look up information on William Sokol. According to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania he is currently under administrative suspension. Which means that he cannot practice law in Pennsylvania, however if he has an attorney working for him who is still active in PA he can use that person to handle his business here.

In my research I also found out that payday loans are supposed to be prohibited in PA. Lenders (including online lenders) must be licensed to make offers to PA residents. Then they must follow the interest and fee caps set forward in the Consumer Discount Company Act. Look under Section 13, E . There was already a huge class action lawsuti against one lender. From what I understand there are more lawsuits in the works against several payday lenders all across the country. Many other states will be enacting similar laws if they have not already.

I too have received phone calls from this so called Attorney, but when I had asked them to send me by mail verification of the debt and other information concerning, he was trying to tell me that I was just bying time and that they had already sent me information by mail. I told him that I never received it and would like it resent. Then he started getting upset and telling me I just didn't want to pay, I told him that was not the issue, it was that I wanted verification of who they were. SO after minutes of dispute, he stated that they would. I will see! But then I get a call yesterday about the same loan from a US Federal Claims and that they were going to make me lose my job, my license excetra! I looked up the number and could not find it anywhere and also the name of the SO CALLED CO. I spoke to a foreign gentlemen who got mad at me because I asked him several times to send me something in writing, he stated that he could after I made a payment (HELLO), I don't think so. SO he threatened me and as I was telling him what he could and could not do, he hung up on me, I laughed even harder because he got so mad when I was very calm! So my next question is, if they sell your loan off to someone else, how are you really suppose to pay it back?

What should I do if I did pay them? I didnt really think about checking it cause I knew that I did have an unpaid loan... Now I have received several calls from different "law offices" taking about garnishing my wages and everything.. I looked into this guy and DNI recovery and I am finding that they are all fake or bad people...
So is there something I can do about the fact that I already paid them??

Another little tidbit on this Sokol guy - hebuys loans that are too old for a company to collect on. I had a loan with a real bank and after 3 years of no collection attempts I get a letter from this law office. They were very persistent so I talked to my boss who is an attorney. He said that the statute of limitations runs out if the original company does not talk to you within 2 years of the debt going to collections. I emailed this law office and told them that I willnotpay on a debt that is no longer collectable and the harrassment stopped for about a year. I now get phone calls daily and refuse to answer.Do notpay on the loan if it is old - they have no right to that money and it has already been written off the books as a loss for the company that originally gave you the loan.

God Bless you all!!! Please go to the FairDebtCollectionAct.Com. They do have FREE lawyers who will take your case, if they feel you have one. PLEASE get a tape recorder, I got one @ Best Buy; due to Powell Law Offices making threats and calling my job after I told them I could not receive phone calls!!! Get A SONY tape recorded and record your conversations, so if your Consumer Lawyer decides to take these 'fake'scam artists to court; YOU will be able to sue for illegal harrasment.

Hope this helps!!! :)

Blessings!!

Check out this link. Apparently Mr. Sokol is on Administrative Suspension in Penn. And doesnt appear to be admitted to the NJ bar as he claims, still waiting for a call back fom the NJ Bar Association.

If they are just a collection agency, they need to be licensed in your State to do so. In Illinois, he is not licensed. Google your " your state" " professional license look up" then find the state agency that handles licenses and look for him. If they are not licensed in your state they can be fined big bucks. Simply go to your State - States Attorney website and take 5 minutes and fill out a complain form and they will take it from there.

I just received a call from them regarding some payday loan. At one time, I had 3 internet loans (illegal in Illinois-limit is 2), these are paid. All 3 of the lenders were not licensed to do business here in Illinois, at least not that I can find. Sokol is not licensed here as an attorney or collection agency..I paid all 3 of these loans, the original loan amount, plus the interest (one of these was renewed by lender-also illegal here)...Anyway, I am not threatened by his scare tactics, I have asked for validation of debt, which his staff refuses to send. I would like to know which one of these payday lenders he is supposedly collecting for so that I can send proof of payment and stop these ridiculous calls. If they continue to call and not pony up validation, a complaint form will be filled out with AG's office.
