I have two delinquent Amex accounts (120 days past due), which are allegedly owned by Nationwide credit. Nationwide faxed me a settlement offer, which looks very simple, without any logo. Also they are asking me to pay the settlement amount at Amex website. the letter says "obligation will end upon settlement" and doesn't say anything about reporting to credit agencies.
Are they genuine?
Your advice is appreciated!! Thanks.

I recently settled a different credit card with Nationwide. Their settlement letters suck. Absolutely suck. I do not know what you can do about it. It said to pay the credit card company to. But when they said they would split it up into payments. They said to pay them instead. Well, I got them te tell me that, and documented everything. They would NOt change the settlement letter. They actually had to write separate payments into the settlement letter.

Even the settlement letter is not professional. All I can say is, document everything, call them up when you send in the first, document who took it. Pay by a cashiers check. Send in the settlement letter you get each time. Call them up each time.

I will tell you the whole story after the settlement goes through and I receive a letter from them stating it is settled in full.

If Nationwide OWNED the debt, you would be paying them. But if you are to pay Amex, then Amex still owns the debt.

If you are asked to pay via the Amex website, I see no reason why you can't give Amex collections a call and verify everything if you Amex gets the money.

Nationwide agreed to settle at 35% of the debt, in lumpsum. For installment payments, they were demanding 40% settlement. They sent me an official letter, stating that they own my debt. When I asked for a settlement offer letter, Nationwide sent me a rough draft and denied my request to send me an official letter. They also asked me make the payment at amex website, which was very confusing..After making the payment last week, I am trying to get a settlement confirmation letter.
Nationwide has very rude collectors, who also lie a lot. In my case they promised to send a "settlement completed letter" within 48 hours of payment, but now telling me to wait for 30 more days..
