Hi all, I'm so glad I found this forum.. I have an issue I need some advice on, but I'm not sure if this is the right place, please let me know!

The issue with Asset Acceptance LLC (I know you guys are shocked).

An old (2007) credit card was sold to AA, I paid the total amount due in June of this year and recieved a letter stating the account was paid. How do I get my credit report updated? Currently it's showing as charged-off & sold. Which, from the original creditor's standpoint, is correct.

My confusion comes from AA telling me that they are not going to report that I paid this debt, because they never reported the item to the agencies in the first place.

HUH? I'm new to this, so I don't understand how it works. When debt it sold, which item on the credit report is updated? Is a new item added from the collection agency or does the original item get updated? What do I do to show that I've paid this item? I sent in copies of the letter to the agencies and months later, no changes have been made. What do I do? I did mess up by not sending them via certified mail... do I resend? Will a letter from a collection agency update the original item reported by the original creditor?

Thank you so much in advance for any advice or recomendations.

Right - but when I do (and I have, twice), they go to the original creditor who tells them the account was charged off & sold.

My question really is, when a debt is sold, is the original item on a credit report never updated again, and a new item is added if/when the collections agency decides to report it? OR do you only ever have one item per account that is updated regardless of who owns the debt?

hmmm.. this somewhat happened to me. did this collector ever validate that they actually owned this debt?? I one time paid a collector who never owned my debt so I had to pay it twice.
Perhaps you could send a copy of your letter to the attorney general's office? i believe that the collector would be added to your report and it should be marked as paid. someone please correct me if i am wrong/.
