Can someone give me some information on a company called the DAAN group? In my research I have come across them and their so-called "DAAN module" product and it seems fishy to me. I can't finda report on their company on the BBB website and I can't find a single complaint about them. However reading up on their practices it just seems like all they do is cease a debtor from being called. Their reasoning seems circular and their operation seems even more odd...

What are they? A settlement company?

They can be very new to this business and don't have BBB accreditation yet and hence you couldn't find any complaints against them. When you're not sure about their services and reputation, why bother going with them. If you want a settlement company, ask your friends and family or check the companies list complied by this site.

Debtor Activated Attorney Notification System

I've run into these guys before -- actually it was their system. The DAAN module is a device that re-routes calls made to debtors' homes to a central call center/system that automatically ceases CAs on the spot. Basically a robot that acts as an attorney. The FDCPA allows for ANY attorney, not just attorneys retained by the debtor, to verbally cease CAs from attempting further contact by phone. Unfortunately there is no way around this and all we can do is hope the debtors come to their senses before it's too late for them. As far as the DAAN group, they claim to be bankruptcy attorneys. The logic surrounding the device is indeed very "circular" and frustrating. The idea driving the product and its popularity is that it gives the debtor a false sense of security and in the meantime the company justifies it by saying that they are saving the CA money by saving them the trouble of calling debtors who don't have the means to pay their debts... Of course that cripples any efforts made by the CA and who knows if these people are really in the process of filing for bankruptcy. In the end these people will figure out that they made the poor decision in choosing this type of attorney representation. A sure way to get sued too I might add.

I think you people are misunderstanding the DAAN system. It is a means of instructing creditors that the client is protected by attorneys and redirecting them TO THE ATTORNEY in question. It is a device. DAAN is not a debt settlement company, nor attorneys. If they are attorneys, they are not acting as such for the purpose of DAAN. If it refers them to actual attorneys what is bad about it?
