My credit score is currently 501 which is pretty much low as it goes. I know that by paying off charge offs and collections won't raise it so what would be a good way to get my score to start moving. Any advice that doesn't involve credit cards would be great. I want to buy my own home in the next 3-5 years.

Also, should I work with a debt company like CCC or just handle it on my own since I am not accruing interest? I don't know if it would be better since an agency could maybe get me settlements.
Also, is there a list here of agencies for credit counseling and such?

you can get settlements on your own right now would be my guess, collections are easy to get really good settlements out of if you want to buy a home in the next 5 years you may want to get busy cause it will take awhile to get all that paid off and a history of good behavior to raise that score it will take time

I wouldn't touch the debts that are going to come off my report in 2010. For the rest, try to pay off the debts with high rates and/or small amounts first. This will reduce the number of negative accounts in the report.
Settling accounts, even charged offs, would improve your score. May be slowly but you're likely to see improvements in your score as you settle.
Best of luck!!

I didn't plan on messing with the 2010 or 2011 items until very last if at all. I'm also going to try a pay for delete option. The worst they can do is say no. Thanks everyone and for the awesome forum!
