Are you talking about a BK-7 and keeping the car without re-affirming the debt?
You should know that the BK reform laws promulgated in 2005 specifically sought to eliminate the "ride-through". Thus the new laws REQUIRE you to either 1) reaffirm the debt (if you want to keep to chattel), 2) Redeem the chattel (by paying the account off), or 3) Surrender the chattel to the lender in satisfaction of the debt. One of those three outcomes should be done before your case is discharged. If you do not reaffirm, then when your bankruptcy is discharged, the lender will generally be allowed to repossess your vehicle even if you are current on the payments.
As to dealings/experience with Carmax, I have none and do not know whether they would allow you to simply "ride-through" as that is not in their best interest.
