So, I got a summons today. Amex is suing me for the 11K debt. There's no court date or anything. Its just a summons to respond at this point. I called my buddy who is a lawyer who sort of specializes in these things and he is going to give them a call to see what he can do. I'm oddly not freaked out by this. As long as I dont let it go into judgement, then Amex is one of the lower of the 4 cards I'm in default on and I guess worst case, I can just pay the full amount using the funds I've saved up. It'll leave me with nothing left to pay the others with, but I can start saving up again for those I suppose. And I'm sort of stoked that finally its at a point where maybe I can start negotiating with them, becasue I've had zero response from them to any of my efforts at settlement so far. I might not get it as low as I'd like, but again, its one of the lower amounts and it'd be nice to have one of them settled and done with.

Any words of wisdom from anyone? The representatives for Amex with my account is Zwicker. Anyone know anything about them? Anyone have any recent Amex settlement stories? Anyone else gotten any summons from them?

How far behind are you on your payments with Amex? I've got about a 12k balance with Amex that I'm on their hardship program. However, I'm having difficulty making payments and was thinking about stopping payments to try and settle with them.

Is your balance from normal charges or was it a balance transfer and cash advances? Just trying to figure out why some people get sued and others get settlement offers?

Good Luck!
