My credit score had suffered a major setback two years back with $18k worth of debt. However, I had since crawled my way out of that mess and am pretty confident of myself now. But, my score hadn't improved much over the time. :( So, I was wondering if opening new credit lines would help me in improving my score. I had to close my credit lines during the process of debt settlement.

I'm looking for an auto loan and seriously need to improve my score to qualify for good rates. Any suggestions!

I had a student loan default and my score was in the low 500s for awhile and got a used car loan for $8600 and my score was going up 10 points every month after I made a payment until it was around 650. I haven't checked in awhile but I did get a credit card and paid all the fees on it but haven't used it. I've been getting a lot of other offers lately so I assume its improved a lot.
