First National Bank of Omaha won't send letter
Date: Wed, 01/06/2010 - 14:20
I'm attempting to settle a credit card debt with First National Bank of Omaha. Today, when I mentioned I'm looking to settle they offered to settle for 20 percent of the balance (card is some 90 days past due).
I'd like to accept it, but they refused to send a letter or e-mail confirming the offer and that makes me nervous. I spoke with both an account rep and a manager who said it's policy that they won't send a letter. The manager was reasonable, and said I could mail in a check, as opposed to the rep who said it would have to be an electronic debit from my checking account, which I won't do).
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Wow that is an awesome offer. I have card with them at 100+ but
Wow that is an awesome offer. I have card with them at 100+ but have not discussed offer. I would be real leary though of not having anything in writing. What would stop them from applying and resarting clock?
Hope someone can give better advice.

I wouldn't send them a cent until they put it in writing. You have no other way of proving the terms of the agreement. Also, once you receive the agreement in writing, I'd not send them a check from your personal account. Send them a money order instead to prevent them from using your account info in the future.

I just settled 2 acounts with Omaha, at first they said they would fax the settlement letter on a Monday, then on Monday they said they couldn't do it that way, wanted the $ first settlement would follow later.... Our reply was no letter no $...Then the letter was faxed over and within a day or so a deal was struck on the second acount as well, letter (settlement agreement) faxed over on that one too. %'s were 30% on account 1 bal was 6K+ some change and 21% on account 2, account 2 balance was 9k+ some change. Both deals were struck at the end of the month...Also, scheduled 3 payments for both...Both of these accounts made their way across the hallway to what I believe is Omaha's primary CA PRS, professional recovery services, at around 120 days or so. The adresses matches up with my belief and recollection from the reps that they are indeed right across the hall and in the same building as the Omaha people...My best regards...
