If they do contact you, say with a debt that is reflected on your credit report, can they still continue to charge you interest and legal fees til the debt is paid? and how do I know if the $$ I pay is even going to that debt if they send no proof of payment or validation of the debt other than what is showing on my credit report??

If the collection agency isn't validating the debt then they are violating the FDCPA. You must not send any payment to the collector without proper validation and written document. If they do not agree to validate the debt, file complaints against them with the FTC, BBB and the Attorney General's office.

Next, read your loan contract. It must have mentioned whether or not the collection agency can add fees and interest to the original loan amount.
If you want to settle the debt, a professional debt negotiator can help you pay only a small percentage of the actual balance and have it paid in full.
im a little concerned about this comment, if this is a debt settlement company that helps you settle debt, i was under the impression that they cannot garuntee you how it will be reported to the credit report. most companies will not comply with that. even if you do it yourself you can try but most will not mark it as paid in full.
