My boyfriend was contacted today by a woman at SSA Group in NewYork for a pay day loan he took out in June 2009. They sent a gentlemen to his home and place of employment to "serve" him. The payday loan company is out of Utah. He borrowed $300 from them and they say he owes $735 but will settle for $500 if he pays them by Jan 15th otherwise they are going to press charges against him. My first question is #1 - We live in Texas can he go to jail for this? #2 - Is what they are doing legal? and #3 - What options do we have? He is scared and wants to do whatever they say but I think they are just trying to scare him and to let it go. Advice Please!!!

Paydayloanyes isn't even located in the U.S.
So, whoever this person is making this threat is trying to collect on an illegal loan. Accept those papers to see what they really are. Something is pretty fishy here. None of it makes any sense.
