I was just wondering if Massachusetts is the only state that does this. If a debt collector sues you and wins, or anyone for that matter they get a judgment. After the judgment there is what is known as a Supplementary Process hearing. If the defendant fails to show up, a capias is issued. What that is is pretty much a civil arrest warrent to bring you in front of the judge to explain why you failed to show up and what can be done as far as making a payment.

I know someone who got a letter from the Sheriff and he was scared over it. I had to explain to him what it was. IIRC they cannot pick him up after 5pm thus holding him in jail. Any other states like this????
