A lawyer sent me a letter a few months stating a I owe some money on a credit card account. I asked for validation and proof the account of the original creditor was sold or assigned to their office. Today I received copies of random credit card statements from them which they said was sent to them by the original creditor. Is this proper validation? I don't see any proof they were assigned or sold the account which I continue to be concerned about.

What happens if you request validation and you never receive it? I requested validation from CA for a Sprint phone bill. Told them I had reported my telephone stolen and I had been customer of Sprint for over 10 years. Asked how my bill could possibly be $800.... Sent the request certified mail; received card back. Never heard from them. This was in October.

Do I write them again saying I didn't receive validation?
Do I let "sleeping dogs lie"?
Can I dispute it if it shows up on my credit report.

Thanks in advance for feedback.

no you let it go as if they didn't validate chances are they can't.
yes if they show up on your CR dipsute it in writing not online.that way you can send copies of the green slip with your validation letter.

Thank you Paul. One less thing to worry about. Will keep the backup in folder with my PDL stuff.

Oh, by the way that dude from Smith Haynes Watson NEVER validated my loan with Eastside Lenders. I received the green card back, but no response. Wonder if it's because I included a copy of the internet complaint I filed with ic3.gov??

Anyway, soooo glad to be rid of HIM!

The court's state:
Verification of a debt involves nothing more than the debt collector confirming in writing that the amount being demanded is what the creditor is claiming is owed; the debt collector is not required to keep detailed files of the alleged debt. Consistent with the legislative history, verification is only intended to "eliminate the ... problem of debt collectors dunning the wrong person or attempting to collect debts which the consumer has already paid." There is no concomitant obligation to forward copies of bills or other detailed evidence of the debt. Chaudhry v. Gallerizzo, United States Court of Appeals Fourth Circuit, 174 F. 3rd 394, 406.
