I have a ATG collection that showed up suddenly on my credit report. I sent a DVletter and today I received their response. They sent me a brief letter saying this is the copy of my itemized statement. The copy they sent me looks like it might have been a fax with huge sections of data blacked out. Our address isn't on it, it has my daughter's name and my name, and I see a date of service that makes me think this is from an emrgency room visit we had done 2 years ago. It looks like the paper work the Doctor's office created when writing off the account to ATG. Nothing showing if my insurance was ever build, if anything was paid by the insurance.

Is this validation? By the way, ATG never sent me any bill, never contacted me, just posted this bill on my credit report one day.

To me that is not validation. Some will argue that they do not have to send anything at all, just the original creditors name and the amount owed. Some will say everything is required, like a signed contract and credit card statements from the original creditor.

What state are you in? Is that the real name of the collection agency?

Some states have strict laws as to what needs to be provided for validation, Massachusetts requires a lot to be sent within 5 days of a consumer dispute.

Furthermore, some states require a debt collector to be licensed, if they are not there are strict laws and penalties against them by the state. Massachusetts has a $500 fine, 3 months in prison or both for a debt collector who collects unlicensed in MA. I am dealing with one right now and ready to file my own lawsuit against them on top of what the state could do.
