Has anyone had any recent success settling with Citi and Capitol One cc? Or is currently in beginning stages of default with them?
Browsing through the older threads, it sounds like they are the two most difficult ones to deal with and are quick to sue you no matter what the amount owed is.
I owe Citi 23k and Capitol one 8k and just started defaulting due to losing my job few months ago. =(

I had to deal with Citi long time ago and had a hard time with them. Though they hadn't sued me but hadn't budged either for a lower settlement amount. I had to pay almost 65% of what I owed to them.
IMO the best way is to wait till the account is placed with a collection agency. You might get a better deal from a collector.

I have yet to read where anyone has settled with Capital One. Many do say let charge off and better luck with Collection Agency. However, I read Capital One may not charge off and keep in house for years piling on fees and interest.

Paid both of them. They are slimy as all get out if you deal with them directly. Nasty. I went DTS/New Era. Capital One got $900 on $2,100; Citibank got $2,900 of $5,600 - they were my worst deals. They were also the first ones to get paid. There's a reason for that! From what I have been able to gather, they simply do not let go of interest, which is why DTS/New Era pays them first.
