Your credit rating is trashed while you pay off. However, as you pay off, each credit card you pay off, makes an entry on your report. Most debt can be paid off in 5-7 years with a good debt consolodation company. Once you are paid off, you're good to go in 6 months. Bankruptcy takes 10 years.
