can you stop a PDL from taking money out without closing account? like sending the letters to the loan place and asking the bank not to do anymore ACH withdrawals.

Payday lenders who aren't licensed to lend are nothing more than criminals. Would you trust a criminal with your account info? You may think that revoking their right to debit your account will stop them, and it might stop them temporarily, however, a year from now when you think all is said and done - BOOM, they will debit your account under a new name they created. The only way to stop them for good is to close your account.

I would be willing to bet if you'd send them a letter asking they not make any more withdrawals, they'd think you were one step away from closing the account and that would make them go into your account and grab what they could. As the others have said, closing the account is the way to go.
