Wells Fargo has been of no real help with our recent loan modification. After being approved for a loan modification (took almost a year), our monthly mortgage amount we need to pay is over $100 more than we were paying before we applied for the modification (I know this sounds unbelievable, but it's true, I feel like going to camp out in front of the White House steps till Obabma comes to tell him how is Stimulus Package is working out, NOT!). We bought our home when prices were falling where we live in 2006, but as we all know the prices kept on falling, to the point that our home value is about half of what it was when we purchased it. Also, my husband lost a very significant part of his income with lost overtime at the post office. I also needed to switch jobs due to an abusive boss and lost about 4,000k in income with my job that I was lucky enought to get. We also have had some health issues not covered by insurance that have out us in the whole about 11,000K. We don't want to stop paying our mortgage, but can't afford the mortgage and credit card payments. we are nver late with anything, but just can't keep up. We racked up a lot of debt becacasue of our huge mortgage. Long story how we got trapped into the mortgage/house purchase in the first place. Happy to elaborate if asked to.

Thanks for any advice,
Rivka

Hi Rivka,

I empathize with you. I'm sure many of the other homeowners too are in the same situation because of the decline in their home prices. In your situation you may ask the lender for another modification, where you would need to request the lender to write off a portion of your loan or else the lender would foreclose the property.

You may need to send a hardship letter to the lender explaining your income situation. The lender may consider to forgive certain amount of the loan to make it affordable for you.

Regarding the credit card debts, you may either have to negotiate a lower payment with the creditors or may try to settle with them.

Hope I was helpful.
