midnight velvet

I have an account on my report, midnight velvet. I have heard nothing from these people, until, I guess credit bureaus checked with them, now they're writing. THey were charged off several years ago. Now they're mailing me a 'fraud report' so they can investigate stolen identity. I'm not claiming stolen idenity. I just asked credit bureau to check into it because I don't remember them or the amount they say I owe. Also have not heard from any collection agency on it. So should I write them back and ask for validation or fill out the form so they conduct a investigation. I never said it wasn't mine.
so whats my next move? thanks shirley


If you are unable to recapitulate the account properly, get sure by asking the company to validate the debt. The company will provide you the details based on which you can plan your further actions.

In any case, if the account is legitimate, it will show up in your credit report, maybe now or sometime later. But be sure to check the statutes before you make any payment agreements with the company. Since this debt is charged off, it might be past the SOL period in your state.

It already is, this is why I asked credit bureau to check into it and today I get a letter from the creditor wanting me to fill out a 'fraud' form. I am going to write them back and ask for validation and since they are the original creditor, if its valid, I should have no problems getting it. From there, if its still within the SOL, I will seek a payment plan with them. thanks!! shirley

I have an account on my report, midnight velvet. I haven't heard anything from midnight velvet in a while. I had my credit check by credit bureaus. It was charged off buT. I still owe. I started making payments AN ONLY HAVE LIKE $43.00 LEFT NEED TO PAY THIS OFF. I just need to get in touch with them to finish payments that away they can remove this off of my credit report.
SO whats my next move? thanks TAMISHA
