I got a 28% settlement with Am Ex at about 67 days (10k balance)
I got a 28% settlement with Am Ex at about 67 days (10k balance). It was sent to NCO (collection Agency) for about 1 month. I took some work - and we went back and fourth but we finally got it. We do have alot of debt !! So maybe that helped us get a better settlement.

At 75 days they sent mine to nco. I settled with them for 35% on the second phone call...over 6 payments. funny thing. then I got a letter from amex acknowledging the settlement and offering me an optima card if i just paid them the $10k they forgave. I don't think so.

American Express keeps on books past 180 days. They use many different collection agencies. NCO sounds like the easiest to deal with. Mine went to United Recovery and now James A .Walls law firm. You don't want it assigned to Zwicker.
Keep in mind it is not sold early on. These companies are just working on behalf of American Express and I am sure they are looking for their cut.

I wasn't sure on this either. Today though, I did send debt validation letter to James law firm. If anything, I think it will give more time to settle.
