American Debt Management has not updated my file

Has anyone had any dealings with American debt management? In 2001, I consolidated two credit cards with them, with the agreement that in 3 years, both would be paid off. It wasn't even that much debt ($3000), but with my salary at the time, I felt it was necessary. Well, lo and behold, I check my credit report, and it's showing up as unpaid. I have written letters and filed a complaint with the BBB but have not heard anything yet. I don't feel like I should be responsible for the debt twice.

They will not respond, and it's all automated-- I can NEVER get to a live person. I have my original paperwork, and all my bank statements verifying payments went to them, but what they did with the payments, I have no clue. I am at the point where these two credit cards are 2 of the last 4 dings on my report, and it really irks me that I PAID them off, but it's not showing in my credit reports.
Sometimes I think companies to that just to irritate customers.

Maybe you can send them a letter asking for a payment history of your account to see how the payments were made? Did they send you monthly updates of your accounts with your creditors? I'm on a consolidation program now and it's something that I am requesting that they do. I want to make sure I know where my money is going. Make sure you send the letter certified mail with return receipt.

Did you make a written agreement with American debt management that the debt will be reported as paid off to the credit bureaus? You have evidences to prove your payments made to the company. Send a letter in writing to the company giving it a legal importance. Mention the point that your credit file is negatively hurt because of the account shown as unpaid. They are legally required to update your file otherwise you can pursue legal actions against the company.
