I received a settlement offer today from Citi for 20% - and they will even break up the payments over 3 months. I called them right away to accept the offer, but they told me they would only accept payment by check by phone. I know from reading this site that you should never give your bank account information. I have a deadline to accept the offer that expires in a few weeks. When I settled with Chase, I was able to bring cash to a local branch and offered to do the same for Citi, but they said check by phone only.

Has anyone been able to set up a different arrangement? I guess I could ultimately set up a new checking account specifically for the purpose of settling this CC, but I would really rather do a money order. Any advice?

That is great news Sugar

How many days late are you on your Citi ? Do you just have one card or a few ?
What is you balance ?
We have 3 citi cards totaling 37k ! The best offer we have recieved was 45 % but we are only 40-60 days late. I offered 20% but they declined -
I can afford 20% but not 45 %
Any advice ?
Thanks

Ok, thank you for the great advice! I may do that but was still wondering if I could do it with a cashier's check? I've never paid with one of those before, so I don't know what's involved.

Days late, I staggered my nonpayment between June - September. I will post final balances when they're all done.

SugarSugar,

I have been reading all of your posts on this forum and you have done a great job working settlements with all of your creditors. Are they all personal cards? I get very stressed and anxious, but then I read how well you and others have done (DIY) and it encourages me that I may be successful also in becoming debt free in 2010; I just need to be patient and consistent. Thank you.

Thank you, Guest50, I do appreciate your kind words! I'm so glad to hear that you're encouraged by our journey. Yes, they are all personal cards. Patience is probably one of the most important things to consider when settling! You can only do what you can do and you just have to persevere. Good luck with your settlement journey, I wish you much success!

My wife and I are current with 75k worth of cc bills. We will not be able to continue paying. We pay the minimums and going no where fast. Does anyone know what our first step should be in getting cc companies to make settlements? We have excellent credit with decent rates but cannot see sustaining payments any longer because of cut in pay and on short term disability now. Even when I'm off disability we will not be able to pay. Any suggestions? Please let me know...Thanks

You need to just keep reading EVERYTHING on this sight. We are in the same boat as you but we just stopped making payments this month. So no success story from us YET..but this sight has so inspired and helped us a ton. Put each of your credit cards in the search option and just start reading what others have done. Do your homework. Consider every possibility. Then start asking questions. Before I ask questions here I always search it first. It is also good to get registered here..there are so many "guests" that is gets confusing on keeping them all straight and their stories straight. You can be on here without anyone knowing who you are. I have also started my own blog of our journey. It will just help keep things straight for me and perhaps in the future help someone else. Anyways, good luck and I hope this helps you some how.

I rec'd a settlement offer from a law office representing Capital One, I called Cap One to verify the offer and they connected me to the law offices from which I rec'd the letter and then they tried to double the amount of the settlement offer, I told them NO, I'm only paying what the letter said I'll send a copy with the check and I hung up. Can they take my payment and tell me I still owe more??? Or rescind their offer???

Thank you, John51222 & luckin10! I'm really glad to be of help, and I'm also glad to see that you mentioned the search function. I really did my homework by reading all the posts about all my cc's, and I still do have questions sometimes. I don't post on forums, but I felt so much relief from other people who were brave enough to post their stories and their successes, I really wanted to share and hoped to help. I have had some frustrations lately with the site, beginning with some private messages that left me very uncomfortable, so I am hesitant to share too many details. Also, many times someone will start a topic with a specific question or about a particular cc, and someone else will come in and write about a completely different subject. I think that when someone asks new questions on top of questions, it makes it more difficult to find information. I know that people who come here are scared and don't know what to do, just like me. But we all had to start somewhere, and I started from the top and worked my way down. Then I searched & cross searched, and I still have questions. I don't have a Cap 1 card, but others do and if you can't find the information you need, why not register & start a topic about Cap 1?

I just got off the phone with Citi. For the 1st card, they will only accept a check by phone or debit card payment for the first payment. Then they will send me a letter showing that the first payment was posted. The remaining 2 payments will be due on my billing dates.

The 2nd Citi cc is going to charge of in 2 days. They will only offer 41%, which we don't have, even if spread over 3 installments. They did offer me the hardship program of 0% interest for 1 year, or another repayment plan for 5 years. We are probably going to take the hardship program to give us some breathing room.

Thank you, King Jabba Labba! Citi is hard to budge on certain accounts, so this was a big surprise!

I'm so happy to say we are almost done! We started with 16 accounts, and have 5 left. We had to let BOA and GE Money charge off, but will deal with those as soon as we can afford to.

Settled:
Chase #1 - 23%
Chase #2 - 23%
Chase #3 - 23%
Chase #4 - 23%
Citi #1 - 20%
Barclay's - 30%

Hardship Program:
Discover #1
Discover #2
Citi #2

Paid In Full:
Sears #1
Sears #2

Sugarsugar, yes you can be proud..way to go! You are so close. And I agree with what you said in the other post..it would be nice to keep on topic of whatever the thread is. but this still is a very good sight and I could not be doing what we are doing without it! :> I read all your posts..you have inspired me! I have started a blog so I can keep my stuff all straight and hopefully be able to help someone else down the line when I am through all this stuff. Anyways..continued success!
