by the way, I would like to add that I have recently moved and the IRS doesn't have my correct address, so I haven't recieved anything from them at all. If the IRS sends the 1099cs, I probably won't recieve them at all..
1099c will come from the company you settled with -- not the IRS
1099c will come from the company you settled with -- not the IRS. Does that company have your current address?
Ok, yes they do. I haven't recieved anything from them yet - do
Ok, yes they do. I haven't recieved anything from them yet - does this mean they aren't going to send anything until next year?
If I am not mistaken it must be postmarked by the end of January
If I am not mistaken it must be postmarked by the end of January 31st, just like W-2's.....even if you do your taxes and then get it, you can still give it to your tax guy if any changes need to be made, no big deal.
As far as if you will get one is another question. I settled for less than a full balance about 3 years ago and never got a 1099-C.
I think the companies have to file their paperwork by mid Octobe
I think the companies have to file their paperwork by mid October and finalize it in November, so most likely you would get it next year. although on a personal note, my husband just got a 1099 c from a debt that was written off in 1997. There seems to be a lot of grey area around this.
