Okay, this is the wells fargo account that I've been pulling my hair out over. I just wrote them certified return receipt. Its on my husbands Equifax report (he got today) as being 'charged off account;Chattel'. okay, forgive me if this is a dumb question but I haven't seen the word 'chattel' on our credit reports before, I don't think I've heard of it. what does it mean??
And they are reporting every month as charged off, the last time they reported was 9/05. eleven months straight every month as being charged off. Some of this was during the time that I started paying collection agency and they didn't cash my check for three months and so on...and wouldn't, nor haven't talked to me--yet wells fargo has been reporting on me during that time. does this mean they're still holding the account, or were until 9/05??. thanks for any info, shirley

does chattel mean personal property? It was a secure loan as I have posted before. a riding lawnmower that bit the dust a long time ago and a big screen tv that went out. Date opened 02/2002.
okay TOTALLY CONFUSED HERE:
It shows a balance amount of $2233. amount past due $2108. charge off amount $99.
This was reported 12/2005 just last month. charge off $99??? can anyone translate this? thanks shirley

on my transunion report I got yesterday, its showing this account as paid or paying as agreed. balance is $0 date opened 08/1998 date updated 02/2000 date closed 01/2000.. I am not getting this at all. hope the certified return receipt letter that I mailed out to wells fargo last week will help shed some light on this account. I only have this one and the visa one on my report, yet its not the same account number as husbands and we're joint. shirley

Chattels basically refer to the movable or immovable property. Anything can be classified under these heads such as goods, land, lease, mortgages etc.

You can assume that the charge off amount of $99 might be the charges added to the account by your creditors.

Shirley, there is some hard work that you have to do now. You need to compare all the three reports of your husband with yours one. Highlight each of the items that do not match with each other and dispute with the credit bureau for rectification. It feels sad to know that the three national credit bureaus are not showing any importance to the individual's credit file. Every individual's credit is very important and it is the responsibility of the bureaus to present their financial status accurately. It's sad that even after paying money for the services, we do not get our actual credit details in one single time.

Thanks John for responding. SO its kinda like they [may have] charged me $99 for my 'charge off'. I know what you mean about the hard work. I was up until 4 am this morning, filling out my transunion dispute form on my credit file to put in todays mail and was on line with Equifax disputing husbands credit file. These are the only two reports I've gotten back so far. one from equifax for him and a transunion for me. I am going to follow this through. Equifax just kept reporting, investigations show that its yours...okay, I knew this, I wasn't trying to get out of them being ours, I was hoping to get answers on what is going on with these accounts (dell and wells fargo)on why they won't talk to us and why collection agencies won't talk. this is what I was up all night disputing with them about. patience. I know its going to require patience and hard work on my part. But I am strong and will do what it takes to make this year work for me. I want this year to be the year. thanks for listening John!! :D Shirley

As per as I can remember, you sent out several letters to them. They did not respond, nor did they encash your check. And now they are reporting it as charged-off? This is ridiculous.

File complaint and claim the damage. Consult a lawyer and see how can you catch them by law?

One more thing, can you remember what the exact status of the account is? Are you paying it off or it defaulted? This info could you help to identify which report is erroneous.

It went into the charge off state first. Exactly a year ago and I have spent the past year trying to get these people, both CA and OC to talk to me about this account. NADA. Still NADA. It seems almost like they don't want my money, or its not important to get my money. They seem to be in no rush to take care of this. I got the first letter from collection agency, didn't ask for validation, went straight into trying to make payment arrangements. I've not heard one work from CA except that one letter and nothing from wells fargo. The week before last I sent wells fargo a certified return receipt letter and am waiting to see if that produces anything. haven't gotten the green card back on it yet. thanks! shirley

I received a letter from Portfolio Recovery showing a debt that they purchased from Wells Fargo who purchased the debt from Rooms-To-Go. I called Rooms-To-Go and was told that they have never sold an unpaid debt in my name to Wells Fargo and except for on purchase, which I made payments to American General all of my purchases were cash. I tried to tell this to Portfolio, but they tell me I am wrong and they refuse to talk to Rooms-To-Go. They have even called me on Sundays regarding this matter. The last time which was today 7/31, I ended up hanging up on her.

Hi Majorie

Send a DV letter to Portfolio and notify them that you do not believe that you owe them money. Ask them to validate the debt with proper documentation. You can also send a C&D letter to them stating that you want them to make further contact with you in writing. Remember to send the letter vai certified mail with a RRR.

I recently wrote regarding pesty phone calls, they claim I made a purchase 4/1994 and made some payments but still owe a balance. At that time I was making payments to Norwest, which I found out is now Wells Fargo, this happened about 1996. I never received anything from Wells Fargo and what are they doing bothering me me about a bebt that is probably paid and if not is Wells Fargo's fault for not billing me. It's been over 10 years
