we have contacted our credit card companies and tried to work out repayment plans - some are willing to work with us and some are not (or offer a repayment plan we can't agree to 'cause we can't afford it). are we better off sending what little we can each month or just waiting and keep trying to call to get a workable offer? will it look better that we are TRYING or not really make any difference?
also, when they are calling so far we are not answering the phone - is that the best way? i've called back a couple times to see if there are any programs available, but so far no new offers - how often should we make such calls? any thoughts on sending a letter requesting that all contact be via mail?

thanks for all input?

We tried working it out with the CC companies also, they weren't very helpful, all they offered was something we couldn't afford. We are in the debt settlement process right now, but haven't heard back from them yet. I'm not sure what you should do but I wanted to acknowledge your post, please keep checking back for more replies.

It's really hard to know what to do to get them to realize SOMEthing is better than nothing. We are maintaining contact by mail, have been sending settlement offers back and forth until we get what we can afford. We just keep holding out hoping they will eventually accept a settlement.
