About to turn $27,000.00 in credit card debt over to Freedom Debt Relief. Just happened upon your site. This is a bad idea, I guess? It sounded great and I was very excited! I haven't paid my credit cards for 5 months and all the credit card companies are saying I only have a few more days to work with them. What to do? Is FDR not good? F with BBB and 200 some complaints? Please help. Soon

Who are they creditors and how much do you owe to each? There's much info on this forum about each creditor and how they are to work with. With you being 5 mos behind, have you tried talking to any of them to work out some sort of BLP or settlement? I thought about using a debt settlement company, but after reading much about the topic on this forum and the NET in general, I decided against it. Many folks say that DIY is very doable. Debt Settlement companies usually charge high fees and that is money you could use towards settlements, with DIY. Best of luck to you.

I would hold off. Have you been able to save any money for settlements? I would call your cc companies and tell them you are looking to settle and trying to come up with the funds. That is all that FDR with the F rating from BBB will do AND they will take your money that you could use for settlements. In my opinion, bad idea. It would help if we knew what your debts were and then people that have been through it can advise. Also the search option on this sight is so helpful. Just READ READ READ this sight and you will learn so much. Information is power. Good luck and keep posting.oh and I am glad you are registered. It is so frustrating when people do not register b/c it is so hard to keep track of all the unregistered guests. It is so helpful to track people's progress b/c it only helps you out in your journey as well.

Thanks everybody.
I owe;
Discover 9000
Chase 3000
Bank of America 9000
Capital One 6000

Does that help at all? I was in a non-profit debt consolidation prgm paying $730 a mth. I stopped so couldn't afford it any more. Freedom Debt Relief quoted me $450/mth today. I can handle this. She said they could negotiate the balances down and the APR's and that they take 15% which is built into the $450. It sounded doable and I felt a great sense of relief. I thought I'd do somr research and now I'm worried. I thought they'd handle my creditors and start paying right away. But from what I'm reading here, it looks like you keep depositing money in an acct and eventually when there is enough there and FDR is paid, they start paying money. I'm confused about that. I just heard back from them and I'm approved (shocking:) and I plan to ask all these questions tmw but they probably will have all the prepared answers ready and I might get gullible. Any more advice? Anyone really dealt with them? Recently?

Has anyone negotiated their debts and rates down by themselves, significantly? I'm running out of time, my creditors have stepped up the calls and have sent FEdexs saying I have until the 26th before it's sent to lawyers.

You just sign up through the "community sign up" it is right below the other sign up option. I think I still gave my full name but I don't think I gave a phone number. No one has ever called me from this sight.

As far as giving money to a settlement company..I would never do that until you have tried settling on your own. I am just starting this process. It isn't fun talking to creditors but I am not afraid. I am doing it. I just keep reminding myself I AM in control..they are not. They are only human and as long as I keep the communication open we are going to eventually get something worked out. Nothing can be worse than the life we are living now being is such bondage..I am sick of it. If you keep doing the same thing over and over again and getting the same result..that is INSANITY..I am choosing to do something different and I will get a different result! Don't give someone else your money when you can do it yourself. You are the only person that cares the most about your money/debt so you will take care of it better than they will..keep posting and good luck.

I am a FDR client. They do charge a fee and a percentage. But I was told this upfront.
I got tired of waiting for them to settle some of my accounts so I called some of them and they have settled for 30 percent of the balances owed with me. To do this you have to pay the 30 percent in cash in 1 lump sum. No payment plan.
