Legal action

I just received a phone call from a Tom Fisher who called in regards to paperwork he received in his office. It said it is in regards to a legal affadavit as a request to be served to appear in court in regards to a pending suit that is being filed against me. The phone call was a notice of intent. I googled the phone number which is 877-282-6174 and others had written it is a debt collector. This man said he will be arriving at my house. There was no company name or name of the company I owe left on the message. Is this legit? Don't they have to send me a certified letter or something? I have no idea what debt this is regarding. Can anyone give me any insight on this, is this how people are served?

First you should have received a letter of collection in the regular mail, if you haven't received anything in regards to this alleged debt then I wouldn't worry about it. If you search the forum for this so called "legal affidavit service" you will find where other posters have complained of receiving similar phones calls and being harassed by these scammers. File a complaint against them with the FTC, don't know if it will do any good since you have very little information about them but at least you have a phone number.
