The settlement company should receive accreditation from at least one of these institutions - BBB, TASC, IAPDA or USOBA. Check out with whom they are listed with.
Hasn't your boyfriend reported to the settlement company that he is still receiving harassing calls from his creditors? He must immediately do so and also maintain a log of the calls to present it to the settlement company. He must also direct creditors to the settlement firm. If the firm fails to stop collectors' calls, you may then have to check out options to get your money back from them.

You can check out the company's raking chart to find a settlement company near you. You can also ask your acquaintances, who have used the services of settlement firms, to suggest you a reliable one.
If you are dissatisfied with National Financial Assistance Bureau, you may consider filing complaints against them with the FTC and the BBB.

One of the ways you can tell if a debt settlement company is legit is first by seeing who they are affiliated with. With they are members of the United States Organizations for Bankruptcy Alternatives (u.s.o.b.a. for short) then they are most likely following strict guidelines that they must adhere or to or run the risk of being reported and fined heavily.

Try Green Path debt solution's They're HUD approved. Seem to be doing a good job for us. I do have to admit initially the debtors phone calls drove me up the wall. Once I got use to telling them Green Path was who they would need to call or settle with and thank them for calling. My revenge was so sweet I just hung up. My husband would giggle, but Green Path said they would handle it all the negotiations and payments. What a dream, can not describe the good feeling.

Nobody can stop a first party collector from calling you but they will have been sent a power of representation letter which informs them of your enrollment. It is their goal to get you to drop the program...so just let them know you are enrolled and give them the companies phone and fax number...then politely hang up.

NFAB is a member in good standing with USOBA....you can verify that by calling 877-768-7622

The parent company Jackson Federal Mortgage has an "A" rating with the BBB and has been in business since 1995 with no unresolved complaints. Why would they tarnish that reputation by doing bad business with their debt division? Wouldn't make much sense. You are experiencing normal debt settlement issues...the company has not mislead you.

Saying your boyfriend has paid $700.00 does not mean that creditors should not still be calling. If I owe you $40,000 and I pay you $700 are you still going to call me to try to get the rest of it? Creditors have the right to call you and try to collect on a debt that is owed, (In regards to your question how can you tell if they are legit) I just looked them up and they are Members of U.S.O.B.A and they are members of I.A.O.P.D.A, International Association of Profesioinal Debt Arbitrators, as well as members of the Chamber of Commerce, so they seem to be Legit, My advice is to let your creditors know that you are enrolled in a settlement program and give them the number to the company your signed up with and hopefully that will help. I did a settlement program myself a couple years ago, it's not the most pleasant program to be in, but they work.

Most companies charge upfront fees to do your settlement, so if your saying you have only paid $850 and something should have been settled, you have to look at your program and if this company charges upfront fees then $850 would not have been enough to settle an account yet, How much total debt do you have? What is your lowest debt on the list? They should start with the lowest debt and work up the list from there. Example I had a debt of $4500 ot Bank of America that settled for 40%, but you see just on this debt alone I had to have $1,800 saved in order to settle this account. Not just $1,800 though I had to pay the company I was with the first 5 months up front before they settled that account for me. It took some time and I paid a lot of money in fees, but I still only paid a total of $22,000 for almost $50,000 worth of debt.

I would reccomend DS Financial (866) 833-6398. They charge a small fee and you pay the creditors directly. After about 90 days I was debt free I owed 42K and I paid about 13k and that included there small fee. These guys are more than honest.
Dont let them take your hard earned money!!!!!!!
I do, I also signed up with them, I have been working w/them for about three mths and nothing has changed my creditors still continuie to harras me via cell phone, house phone and mailings. This company told me they sent all my creditors proposals but yet my credit card companies have no clue who they are & why would they continue to call me, I paid the three payments of 367.42 & guess what turns out all of it is for fees as a matter of fact I looked at my trust account & they are charging me 3600.00 in fees yikes why would I pay that still ruin my credit & deal with this for the nx 4 yrs of my life, instead of either wking with the creditors myself for free since I have done all the wk anyway or file bankrupcy.
This company is worse then the credit card companies they are theifs.
I filed a complaint and suggest you do the same.

They have an A+ rating because they are a new company. They just started up at the beginning of this year (look them up on Sunbiz.org). They haven't had enough complaints yet. I'd stay away from them as they don't really know what they are doing.....

this program nfab works i was with them for about 3 months before the calls stopped and now it has been a little over 1 year and they have done well it takes 4 years or so to get it all took care of so just hang in there it will all work out do what they suggest and in no time it will be paid off then they will help to get your credit built back up.
