I have an account with calvary that was sold to a law firm. I'm not disputing the charges, all I wanted was the charges on the original card, the amount and the date that it was charged. But the law firm cannot give that information to me. All I have is the original credit card account# with Providian bank. I need any kind of advise I can get?

Hi Thao, are you saying that the collection agency has added collection charges/interest on the amount? Have you asked them to validate the debt? Do they report to your credit report as well?

If you are not satisfied with the validation provided by them, you must send a follow up DV letter to them.

Well Thao, I would suggest you to send them a letter of validation via certified mail with return receipt requested.

In return the collection agency should furnish you with certain details such as your account payment history and that will help you to ascertain and evaluate the total debt amount.

Remember, as per Federal Debt Collection Practices Act if the collection agency doesn' t validate your debt, they are not entitled to collect payments.
