Quick question. I do not want to provide the creditors with my cell number, but I'm also not home during the day. I want to keep communication lines open to help prevent from getting sued, but I don't want them calling my cell.

Does anyone know if it is typical for them to leave a voicemail?

Thanks

Sort of depends on the company I guess because my mortgage company told me once that they were not allowed to leave information on a voice mail. Now mind you I have had some (which I later found out because of this site were either being sued or illegal all around) have so... You could try giving them an email address and see if that helps. That is how my mortgage company is working with me.

I agree with aubrey. I just have my cell phone listed. In the beginning, I googled the numbers that called and added them to my contacts. I know exactly whos calling every time now. I have my phone on vibe on my desk at work. One click and it silences the call... no big deal. Once every other week I'll take a call and update them, and log the convo into a notebook with the date, time, who I talked to, etc.

95% of the time they do not leave messages. If a message is left, it's a recorded message.

Most of the calls are from auto-dialers. Occasionally I get a vm saying to call regarding changes in your acct; but usually the phone rings 3 times then hangs up without leaving a msg. I feel if they can't leave a msg, then I am not calling them back.

I use my cell phone as well; and not only can you screen your calls, but it keeps a log of the of calls you receive from each nbr. They have my email, but haven't received any communications from them in that form; though, would welcome that line of communications. Good luck on your journey to begin debt-free.

Yes, as ca_mgb mentioned, the calls are auto-dialers! This has been the case every time I've answered a call... I hear nothing for a good 5 seconds... sometimes longer! Answering the call triggers a call, an alert, something... so the collector knows you answered the phone. And since they're automated calls, no messages are usually left.

So far I have only gotten daily, or on weekends twice daily, automated call from Chase leaving a message for a "special offer." But a couple of times I received v/m messages for possibly the previous owner of my phone number. They actually say, this message is for "so and so" and of a personal nature, and if you are not "so and so" please hang up immediately, if you are "so and so" we will give you a few seconds to take the call in private. Then it goes on to say they are collecting on a past due account and to please call. I found it sort of amusing that they give you a chance to hang or take the call in private, but they leave the entire message on an answer machine?!
