Medical Bill and Interest
Date: Tue, 03/09/2010 - 10:27
I had a dispute regarding payment of a medical bill in May '07. The delinquent bill was forwarded to a collection agency. I had discussions with the collection agency on several occasions. My closure was to pay the delinquent amount owed upon receipt of an updated billing statement from the collection agency. I never received a new statement and this was forgotten, until I received notice of another collection from the same agency in Jan '10.
The collection agency did not send a billing statement for almost three (3) years!! The amount of the bill has increased due to interest charges.
Is there a law that requires them to keep billing me or notifying me of this debt when the amount is increasing due to interest charges?
What rights do I have?

Collection agencies are not required by law to send you regular
Collection agencies are not required by law to send you regular bills....they are not a billing agency and you are not a customer in good standing.
Is the CA working third party for the original creditor? If you signed an agreement subject to interest, then yes, you would be responsible.
