Calls at work from "Officer" John Williams
Date: Thu, 03/11/2010 - 19:35
I know this is a scam but I still would like some advice or for someone to let me know I am on the right track.
Last Thursday, out of the blue, I get a "blocked" phone number on my phone at work and call from a guy with an accent so thick I can barely understand him. Then he asks for me by name. Then it started.
First he said he wanted the name and number of my attorney. I said why would I have an attorney? Then he says I am being investigated for fraud for a check I wrote for a PDL that I took out in April 2009.
This guy knew my last 4 of my SSN, my birthdate, my old checking account # and my old address.
When I asked him what this was about, he said that I would not get anything in writing until I paid my bill.
When I asked who he worked for he gave me the name Jason O Connor attorney at law 314 Park St. Ave. NY, NY. "Park St.?" pretty stupid huh?
I said how much do I owe? and "Officer" Williams said that if I paid today it was 350.00, if I paid tomorrow it would be 437.00 and when they take me to court it will be 2432.00 so they added a quick 1995.00 for the "attorney" fee.
Well, then I said I need something in black and white, he said not until I pay my bill. Oh, ok. So I said, I have 40 bucks.
Officer Williams countered with 100.00 and when I told him I didn't have 100 he said, "don't you have friends or family you can borrow from?" I said look, pal, if I ask my family for money they're gonna want proof that I owe it and if I tell them that some middle eastern guy is calling me at work and won't give me proof, it ain't gonna happen. He told me I will be in a real legal MESS! Yeah. I know.
Next day.
"Officer" williams leaves a message on my voice mail at work and says that if I don't call him back today that I will have a real legal mess and gave me a number in Brooklyn NY.
So anytime that day I didn't answer my phone if it said "No CID" and no more messages from "Officer" Williams. But, in the meantime, I called the Attorney General, local PD, local Sheriff, and filed a report with the FTC.
Today, Thursday (they must only work on Thursday) "Officer" Williams (yeah he really sounded like John Williams) calls again only this time his phone number came through with an idaho area code of 208. I answer and he says, "Lisa?" I said yes, He said "this is officer Williams, do you remeber our "agreement?" I replied, "Officer Williams, do what you need to do." He said then, "prepare yourself for a legal mess."
I told him I was prepared, and hung up. It still scared me.
They are cutting jobs where I work because of money left and right, If this clown calls anyone else I'm toast.
Any advice past writing to the FBI, Atty Gen, District Atty?
Thank you for any help.

These idiots just never stop! You may want to give your employer a heads up, just tell them some scammer is calling you making threats and allegations that aren't true and you have already contacted the proper authorities.
