first a couple of things.

paydayloan yes is totally illegal
how much was borrowed,and how much debited in fees
what state are you in.

you see if the amount of debits meets or exceeds the principle,then you owe neither paydayloan yes or halsted a dime,and shouldn't give them anything.let me give an example.

you get a 300.00 loan
they debit twice at 90.00
you owe 120.00 that is how it works with illegal lenders.

there is nothing legit about either place.you can try old bank statements to find out how much was debited.i would tell this idiot to go scratch.he is a bottomfeeding slime who can't and won't do anything he threatens.in fact file AG and FTC complaints.your AG like mine in IL fights for their residents who are abused and threatened by garbage like this.tell this guy to do what he wants,but you are not paying without details in writing.

ftc=federal trade commission
ag=attornery general

ask for VALIDATION not VERIFICATION.the two are different.i could verify right here that you still owe paydayloan yes,but since they are illegal you don't owe the inflated amount halsted is claiming.i'm guessing it's right at 350.00 or slightly higher.make this place prove not only you owe,but the outrageous amount they claim.i would still file the complaints.they basically violated the FDCPA with there false threats.go to FTC.GOV to file the FTC complaints.your state AG'S website should have a complaint link.again ask for VALIDATION not VERIFICATION.btw no question is stupid.not at all.

this same company keeps calling my work and left a message stating they were going to start garnishment on my wages. I have never received a letter or anything period from thes people or anyone else reagrding a garnishment. They said they verified my employment already. Can they garnish my wages in Arizona without receiving any paperwork or anything on it???

no they can't garnish without a court order.they can verify anything they want.this is an illegal collector trying to illegaly collect on an illegal loan.report them to your state AG asap.

I just received correspondence from Halsted Financial regarding two payday loans I had with Midland and Fox. They are offering me settlements and they also said in their letter that they have been trying to contact me (haven't received any phone calls, etc. until now) and that they are "investigating" my assets. They can't debit any of my accounts can they!?! I checked my bank statements and for Midland for a $300.00 my account was debited for a total of $360.00 ($90.00 increments) for Fox for a $250.00 loan my account was debited for a total of $450.00 (again $90.00 increments). I don't think I should have to pay them one more cent. I am filing a complaint with the NYAG's office. Will this be enough to stop them or should I get an attorney? I'm starting to see a light at the end of this payday loan nightmare I got myself into. I will never do that again!!!

Halsted Financial has called me again, my loan was for 400.00 they were asking 760, but are offering my a settlement of 380.00. Should I pay this?? How will I know that once this is paid they will not come back for more and that my payment will go toward the loan??

no you shouldn't.this is a bottomfeeding scam collector.a couple of reasons.

1)never give anyone sensitive info over the phone.
2)never pay anyone,i don't care who without details in writing first.

i bet when you ask for either a way to pay that isn't by phone,or ask for the settlement in writing.they will go off.first sign of a bottomfeeder.

obviously you should pay them...if they're willing to put it in writing you have nothing to worry about. I just paid them over a month ago and i just got my paid in full letter. To be completely honest with you..i have been in debt my self, and i have dealt with a ton of collection agencies, this is by far the best collection agency i have ever dealt with. The guy i spoke to allowed me to pay less then what i orginally owed. I feel like this paul mergel guy is a dead beat that doesn't like to take care of his bills . Dont be like him. I mean people like him is the reason our credit card rate goes up. Paul why are you steering people the wrong way?? if they don't pay what they owe, then it will always stain your credit?? I had 4 accounts in collections before i paid them off and i can actually say i have decent credit now. Why? is because i pay my BILLS!!!! do listen to this looser people, he sounds like a dead beat.

They just called me from 1-703-829-4257. I asked for proof that I owed them money. They couldn't give it to me. I took out a loan from payday for $350.00, before I knew it they took $1157.00 from my account! I closed the account and they are still calling me.:confused:

I just got a call from these morons. A guy named Frank Brady had to have repeated my name 7 times at least.

I asked him where I should send my bill, to his home or office. He asked "What bill" I answered, "The bill for the 7 times you used my name without my express written permission since my name is my property and has since been copyrighted. 7 times $10,000.00 per use equals $70,000.00. So do you want to get the bill at home or at work?"

He said he would mail me a letter.

I love screwing with these guys.

I spoke with a rep. from this company named Jake who was rude and unprofessional in every sense of the word. I then spoke with his "manager" Sam Anthony who was not interested in listening to what i had to say about their representative. I would find a another company because as they say, " attitudes reflect leadership"

These losers have been calling me for the past year, and I pick up everytime to see what kind of stupidly they'll try.. Everytime its the sameee story, tell me they're going to garnish me - still waiting... It's been a year since they've told me that btw.. And it's always the same group of guys... These guys are what they call bottom feeders... They're making a living from stupid people such as your selves who think a pay day loan will affect they're credit. And I'll be completely honest - the only reason I did get the loan is bc I know they literally cannot do anything to you to get they're money back... You can't get blood out of a stone! And IF I wanted to pay anyone it would be to the company I borrowed the money from, not some call center from india or wherever they're from
