i received two letters today from afni for two diff debts. one for att and one for verizon. they are both over 5 yrs old and not even on my credit report. one says i owe over 1900 but they will settle for 50. that makes no sense. and on that one i had it removed from my credit report years ago due to my phone was stolen and i called and cancelled service on it right away, however they did not turn it off and the thief ran up over 2500 in a weekend. i had all the info and police reports to prove what happened so it was dropped and i haven't heard a word about it until today.

i am being hounded on the phone by several 866 and 877 numbers who don't leave messages or hang up when i answer. i also have another collector, scam ppl, calling and leaving messages i will be arrested if i don't wire money. i know better.

the letter head for afni just has a po box. should i send a validation letter? i'll check my credit report again as i saw some older posts about this company reporting people the same day they send out letters. I live in tx and need to look up the sol. i'm starting to worry about why i'm being hounded by all kinds of diff collectors all of a sudden over old debts or ones that don't even exist. i don't like using the phone to talk them, the last one i tried to talk to just cussed me out and said good luck b****. I'm unemployed and have resumes out all over, I can't really change my number. Afni may be one of three numbers that calls over 20x a day.

Any ideas??

Texas SOL is 4 years. Also they can't garnish wages in this state. You also have some rights afforded by Texas law. You can demand validation and they have to comply within 30 days according to Texas Finance Code 392. Also if you provide written notice as per texas business and commerce code chapter 17, you can treble any damages you seek in court...I have used it many times and it works like a charm. Check your credit reports as well!

ty. i will deal with this more in the morning. somehow all these collection companies have my info. wouldn't be so bad if i actually owed all of them. i just did a quick search on afni and only found complaints. and it's all people getting the same letters about old cell phone bills. lots of complaints from women who are receiving letters over dead husbands even. it seems this company is a scam. i'll send the validation letters out and see what happens. years ago i had something removed from cr that i never owed. disputing with the cr companies is easy. if the collector can't show absolute proof in 30 days they remove it. mine showed fake proof so i sent experian a copies of everything, including a signature that i was paid in full and time and a copy of a 30 day move out notice signed by the manager. that real estate company quickly sent an apology.
