Send a debt validation letter to the collection agency that put this account on your credit reports. Make sure you send it certified mail return receipt. When you get the receipt then you dispute it on the credit reports. If they verify they have violated and you have some power over them. If they can't validate it and they don't remove it, you can sue them.
