going back to original creditor

I'm having a horrible time dealing with a certain collection agency. So far I've been able to negotiate in good terms with my other creditors and being faithful to my payments (because we have set up amounts that I can afford). However, with this particular agency, they are such mean and harsh people that they just pressure you to commit to a high monthly payment, making horrible accusations, etc, and they give you no room whatsoever for you to pay something reasonable, applicable to your current budget.
Anyway, I'm super frustrated in dealing with them (I've never encountered such horrible, heartless people in my life).
Is there a way I could go back to my original creditor? I've already tried to contact the original creditor through their customer service, however they always refer me back to the collection agency.

You most likely can't go back to the original creditor. do you
You most likely can't go back to the original creditor. do you know if they have sold the debt or simply assigned it to this agency? Also what kind of debt is it? Is it a credit card? And how long has it been since you have made payments? I know a lot of questions but it will help everyone help you out.
