Refused my payoff

I contacted Check$Mart Corp office where they refused my payoff offer. Said they were going to file against me. What does that mean.
It probably means nothing, since that company usually just sells
It probably means nothing, since that company usually just sells its bad debt to third-parties who never go beyond the nag, annoy and scare you over the phone level. But they are licensed lenders in every state where they have stores and they are holding a bad check so they CAN take you to court. Probably won't but they are in a much better position than an internet lender if they choose to do so.
