Banking Question

Well a week or so later and all of a sudden I am in the HOLE by $2000 bucks!!!! I flipped out and immediately went into the bank to find out what the heck happened. I spoke to the bank manager and what happened was they 'lost' a cash withdrawal I had made a week PRIOR I went into the bank the first time to get the balance...so now they say I am liable for this.
How can I be liable when I have a dang receipt showing how much money I had available and NO pending???? Dang it but I specifically ASKED them how much was in the account...it seems to me this is THEIR fault, not mine. The manager even admitted it was the bank's fault but then said "Oh well."
Any ideas on how I should go about this? I just am so angry that their mistake cost me so much...

You are liable. It is your responsibility to keep track of your balance. It hasnt cost you anything....you spent THEIR money.
Does your bank not have online banking? I check mine daily so I know exactly where I am.
Yeah it does but it doesn't work all the time and pending stuff
Yeah it does but it doesn't work all the time and pending stuff doesn't always show up, that's why I went in. I realize I spent their money, but it does end up costing me something because I have to pay it back, but over half of it is in stupid fees...besides, even had I checked online the withdraw wouldn't have shown up because they never entered it in...it wasn't just pending, it simply was not in the system at all...
I admit I should have been keeping track but this is not all my fault only.....you would think the least they can do is subtract all the stupid fees since it was their mistake as well as mine.
I hope they will accept a payment arrangement because that is all I can do.....lovely. Even WITH a payment arrangement it looks like I won't get to bank for seven years because of this.
I thought there where new laws regarding overdraft fees and stuf
I thought there where new laws regarding overdraft fees and stuff??? If the bank allows you to overdraw, you should not be liable for them or something like that....I thought it was in the new bill Obama passed recently.
Have you tried talking with the branch manager (since he agreed
Have you tried talking with the branch manager (since he agreed it was a mistake) to see if they can remove all/part of the overdraft fees considering the circumstances? DIf no success, ask to speak with the regional manager and explain to him what has happened. Do you have a good history with the bank? That might help you. Best of luck.

You need to charge banks...and quick. I have never not been unable to get onto my online banking and pending always shows up. I have accounts with both wells and wachovia.

Yeah that is likely what I am going to do...I did speak with the manager and he was all apologetic but said basically it didn't matter if it was their fault I am still liable.

If i were you i would definatley try to at the least speak with someone for help on the fees, You are liable for the amonunt that was spent. In refrence to payment arrangments most Large banks dont set up payment arrangements until the account gets closed and sent to the recovery department and that usually takes 60 days from the day the account went negative.
