I paid MCM $100, then felt supicous afterwords. That was so stupid but I cancelled my card immediately. That was today. What are my options now, do I get a lawyer. I really owed money, tried to pay it off but became unemployed, and actually had to move to another country to find a job. I forgot about this debt (incurred in 2004). Thing is even though I would really like to try to honor my debts I can't afford what they are asking right now. Even though I paid the $100 can I still request a Debt Validation letter?

You can demand debt validation but since you have already paid them $100 (my guess is that the 30days window for DV has also passed by now) the CA might not honor your validation request. They may also argue that you have accepted the debt as yours by agreeing to pay them.
