I owe 20,000 on one credit card and 5,000 on a bank loan. How do I contact them to negotiate myself? I am a cop and my Lt. told me that he once owed 10,000 on a card and sent them a hardship letter and they settled for 5000.

Call them on the customer service number on the back of your credit card or the number on your bill. Just as a small word of warning, just because the credit card company settled with your Lt. doesn't necessarily mean that they'll settle with you. Each person's case is different and the credit card company uses its own standards to determine how they're going to handle each person.
