Hello
I wanted to get some feedback to see if you all think I am doing the right thing.
I am being sued (in MO) for a debt originally owned by Chase/Circuit City. The current owner, Ozark Financial Group LLC is suing me through Miller & Steeno who from what I hear owns Ozark Financial. They are trying to collect over $6000 on a debt that was never over $2000.
On top of this, I never recieved a letter from them initially, just a phone call on my cell phone at work. The lady simply said I have 30 days to come up with an arrangement. I called on the 30th day, mostly because I could not get through to talk to anyone prior to that, and the suit had already been filed.
The first court date is Monday the 19th. I have hired an attorney and she will be appearing for me.
I know if I didnt show, a judgement would be placed against me. I also know if I did show by myself, I wouldnt know what to do or say.
Does it sound like I am doing the right thing? Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Thank You.

You are doing the right thing. Keep yourself informed of how the case is progressing and if you have any questions about what your lawyer is doing, ask him/her. Don't sign anything without reading or understanding what it says, and keep copies of everything you can (letters, phone messages, emails) in writing even after your case is finished. Keep a phone log every time you talk to your lawyer so you can refer back to it if you need to. Don't talk to the Collection Agency or their lawyers on your own, if they call you, refer them to your lawyer. Good luck! I hope my advice helps.
