I live in Illinois. I have loans with the following companies:
Ameriloan
PayDayMax
500 FastCash
Cash Jar
Cash Net USA
Pay1Day
Can someone tell me which of these are legal to provide payday loans in my state? I am not sure where to find this information. I have seen, from other posts, that as long as I pay the principle amount loaned, I can refuse to pay any more than that and there is no legal action that can be taken against me. Is that really true?

Please help!

None of those companies seem to be licensed to provide payday loans in Illinois. You can get a list of those payday lenders who are licensed at http://www.idfpr.com/dfi/ccd/ccd_licensees.asp and search for the names of different companies that are licensed. The above link is The State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. There is also information on the Illinois Payday Loan Reform Act at http://www.idfpr.com/dfi/ccd/ccd_main.asp along with the forms to make a complaint. You should contact the IDFPR for advice on whether you can just repay the principal. They can be contacted at

how much borrowed from each lender

I appreciate the help. Just figured out how to make an account, so I will be back, I am sure to ask more questions. Really, I do appreciate the help. I also have two more loans, one with a company called Beacon and another with Nationwide Cash. Do you know if those are legal and binding in Illinois?

this all began (my questioning) because of a rather rude and uncalled for (no pun intended) phone call this afternoon. A person called and identified himself as Max Hall from United States Legal Affidavit and Investigating Department telling me that I was going to be named as defendant in a lawsuit. He seemed surprised that I had not been "briefed on this case" and wanted my attorney's fax number so that he could "send paperwork" to my attorney. I asked what I was being sued for and he told me that I had a loan with a U.S. Cash Advance in Septmber. I told him I did not and he then wanted me to confirm my social security number (which he had). I did not confirm anything. I asked him questions about this supposed loan and I asked him to just fax me the paperwork. His response then was "well just f*ck off then" and he hung up on me!

By this time I was very angry and I called him back. (what was he thinking? I had his phone number) and I told him that I did not appreciate the way he was speaking to me and that since I didn't talk to him that way he would NOT speak to me that way. He told me that I needed to listen to him, and I told him that no, he needed to listen to me! I did not owe anyone for a loan and that he needed to fax this information he kept talking about to me. He told me that he could not fax anything to me, just my attorney. I told him that I would be representing myself, so he could send it to me. He told me that no, he would not and I could just wait and get a summons in the mail.

I almost laughed out loud. I told him that summons' are not mailed, they are hand delivered. He scoffed and said "oh really? and where is that" I told him anywhere in the U.S. and then I asked him where the heck was he? He hung up on me again.

I called my bank next and I am closing my account. After looking at these posts, I think that was a good decision. I just can't beleive that people that already charge well more than they should would be so greedy as to try to scam you out of more. That is what infuriates me.

So at least you know. I am not someone who does not pay bills. If I were, I wouldn't have taken out any loans. I would have expected someone else to pay my way. I had intended to pay back every penny and whatever interest they charged me. I have already paid off prior loans. Now I am mad as heck and I am only giving them what they are due under the law.

So I understand that I need to file complaints with the FTC and Attorney General of my state. Are there other things that I should also do? I want to be sure that I cover all my bases and do this right. Any good advice is appreciated, and thank you so much!
