I am sort of shooting in the dark here to try and repair my credit. I am 25 yrs. old and at 19 I had a couple of credit cards that I didn't pay and some where charged off on my credit report. I also have a collection agency by the name LVNV Funding reported on my credit report. I am not sure exactly what steps I should be taking to try and sort out where this debt is from, how to go about paying it off, and how to clean up my credit report. I have been trying to call around to get some balances and ways to pay off my debt, but they are all requiring an account number for the credit cards (which they said can be found on my credit report) however in the acct number area on my credit report there is on XXXX on each of these reported accounts. HELP PLEASE!

I presume you no longer have the card. Can't you even remember the banks that you have the cards with?

The collection agency should have the information since they are reporting these accounts to the bureaus. You would need to contact the CA and request for debt validation, which would reveal the details about the original creditors.

You can call the collection agency, verify yourself with your name and the last 4 digits of your social....nothing else. If they can't find you, or even if they do....do not discuss the debt at this time..simply tell them you are getting details. Then get their address so you can send them a debt validation letter. You NEVER want to pay something blindly...you want to make sure the correct company gets the correct amount of money.
