Question about Payday Loan
Date: Fri, 04/23/2010 - 05:23
I have twice now received calls from Payday Loan collectors regarding my husband's ex-wife. The first time I was told they were a law firm and the second time, the call came from the Bam Group. They tell me that they are calling me because I was listed as a reference on the ex's loan application. Is this possible or do these collectors just call anyone with the same last name randomly looking for someone to tell them where the debtor is located? I'm really upset that the ex could possibly be using mine or my husband as references for loan and even more upset that we receive these type of debt collection calls. Thanks for any advice you may have.
It is possible you or your husband have been listed as reference
It is possible you or your husband have been listed as references. Unfortunately, people taking out loans don't need the permission of the people they are listing as references. Just tell the collectors that federal law prohibits you from discussing another person's debts and hang up.
Could be either random information they've found (such as online
Could be either random information they've found (such as online), or possibly you WERE listed as references. If I were you and your husband, I'd keep an eye on my credit report just in case... "an ounce of prevention"
