So I'm seeing all over this board advice to report unlicensed lenders to FTC, BBB and State AG's...

When we submit a complaint, what verbage should we use? What exactly are we reporting or complaining about? What is the AG gonna actually care about?

"They lent me money, but weren't licensed to, and now I'm not going to pay them the interest they weren't entitled to charge me"... ok, so what? what's the complaint?

"They lent me money, and didn't tell me that they weren't licensed?" ok, this may be true, but doesnt' seem to have much bite to it... I'd feel almost petty submitting this complaint.

I feel really dumb for not being able to figure out what to say on these complaints so that I feel like I'm actually reporting something worth reporting...

Help?

Provide details, name of company, dba's, addresses, etc. The AG needs to be aware of Internet lenders extending loans without being licensed. Also include the terms of the contract, illegal interest rate they were charging, etc. While this may all seem petty to you, complaints in mass numbers make an impact.

well.there is no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to this.you see 90-95% of all internet loans are illegal.it is up to the lender to know who they can't borrow to,but being as they have no real license they don't care and take advantage of people.as far as the verbage when filing a complaint goes.it varies case to case.in my complaints i just stated that i overpaid some illegal internet pdl's,and they are threatening me with jail(highly illegal).others still owed on the principle and wanted a resolution that didn't involve giving the illegal lender their new acct number.yes if a lender is illegal you are only obligated to pay the principle back.nothing more.it is worth it to file complaints as AG'S will take action on a lender.my ag in illinois takes action against illegal lenders.some things lenders do that warrant complaints are.

1)threatening criminal action, when doing so is prohibited in most states.
2)threatening immediate garnishment when that is impossible.in fact some states are non-garnishment.
3)calling someones employer when said employer prohibits calls except for emergencies.
4)falsely stating they are police officers,or investigators to attempt to scare people into paying what they don't owe.

just know that everyone's situation is different, but filing complaints works, and prevents these place from running amok like they have for years.
