CC settle. Should I bring it up first or wait for them?

If I'm the one that needs to bring it up how long should I wait from the time i stop making payments?
The cc's autodialers started calling me after I missed the first
The cc's autodialers started calling me after I missed the first payments.
I stayed in weekly contact.
After 60 days, I mentioned "squaring up" with them.
They got confused and I explained it to them.
That got that account rolling towards settlement.
The others were from 90-150 days.
